This webinar is open to the entire state! Join NASW IN Region 9 during our November continuing education event, The Importance of Singing and Music Listening in Caregiving, on Wednesday, November 11th! Sharon R. Boyle, MM, MT-BC’s presentation will include didactic components to help participants better understand the importance of singing for caregivers and patients/family, in addition to experiencing and learning the benefits of singing for themselves and with others as part of healthcare. Restrictions of singing due to COVID-19 and parameters for music listening will also be addressed.

On music therapy faculty at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College since 2001, Boyle is currently a Doctoral Candidate in the Applied Health Sciences at Indiana State University. An author, researcher, and presenter, she has two decades of collegiate teaching and clinical supervision experience, in addition to 24 years of clinical experience as a board certified music therapist. She has post-graduate training in Re-educative Music and Imagery from Anna Maria College and post-graduate training in clinical improvisation with Dr. Alan Turry. As a music therapy clinician, she has extensive experience in long-term care and other diverse clinical settings, serving children and adults. She has presented both regionally and nationally on topics related to vocal health in music therapy (a primary area of research), vocal improvisation, music-based approaches in dementia care, clinical supervision and other diverse topics. She has written on clinical musicianship with an emphasis on voice and co-wrote a book titled “Functional Voice Skills for Music Therapists” that was published in 2018 by Barcelona Publishers.

This will be a live online webinar, starting at noon. There is one CEH available to those who attend and complete the post-test and evaluation. This event is free for NASW members and $10 for non-members.
